Port-Miou

The Port-Miou calanque — meaning “Best Port” or “Safe Harbor” in Provençal — is a natural shelter protecting nearly 500 boats at their moorings all year round, whatever the wind and weather.

It’s also a former limestone quarry, opened in 1901 and closed in 1982 to protect the site.

And it’s the only calanque you can reach by car — as well as the starting point of the GR 98, the long-distance trail that lets hikers cross the entire Calanques massif to Marseille in one full day’s hike.
