The Cosquer Cave
The Cosquer Cave is located near Marseille, at Cape Morgiou. It can only be reached through a 175-meter (575-foot) tunnel whose entrance lies 37 meters (120 feet) below the surface.
Unique in the world, this underwater cave holds dozens of works painted and engraved between 27,000 and 19,000 years ago.
A full-scale replica of the cave is open to visitors: the permanent exhibition “Cosquer Méditerranée” is housed in the Villa Méditerranée, next to the Mucem in Marseille. Full details on the official Cosquer Cave website.
